Things didn’t exactly go to form on the first day West Region of the NCAA Tournament, so the third round may see a Cinderella emerge.

Harvard, fresh off its first win in tournament history over New Mexico, could not keep its momentum going when against Arizona. Top-seeded Gonzaga, which got the scare of its life in a squeaker over Southern, lost to a Wichita State team that won an offensive struggle against Pittsburgh.

All start times approximate. All times Eastern:

(9) Wichita State 76, (1) Gonzaga 70

Cleanthony Early scored 16 points, including several clutch 3-point shots, and ninth-seeded Wichita State upset top-seeded Gonzaga, 76-70, in a third round game of the 2013 NCAA tournament’s West Region in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday. Ron Baker added 16 points for the Shockers, who made 14 of 27 three-point shot attempts on the night. Wichita State had a sizable lead, before Gonzaga rallied late. The teams twice traded 3-point baskets with under four minutes remaining. The Shockers held on for the win, becoming the first team to knock off a No. 1 seed in this year’s tournament. Wichita State advanced to the round of 16 in Los Angeles on Thursday. Kelly Olynyk had 26 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs, while teammate Kevin Pangos scored 19 points.
