The Michigan Rattlers will release their debut album in late September, and The Boot's readers are getting an exclusive first listen to its second single, "Didn't You Know." Press play below to hear the new track from the Americana band.

A jangly, upbeat tune, "Didn't You Know" finds one-half of a now-broken-up couple dreaming about his lost love: "It felt like it always used to feel," explains a line in the first verse. He's clearly struggling with the split, though: "Now in dreams, I've got nowhere else to go," adds a later line.

"Didn't you know it would be this hard / Clouds roll in and the sun gets dark," goes the chorus. "We got tired of playin' our part / Didn't you know it would be this hard?"

"Didn't You Know" follows "Just Good Night," the first single from the Michigan Rattlers' forthcoming Evergreen album. The record is due out on Sept. 28.

Michigan Rattlers' upright bassist Adam Reed and guitarist Graham Young began writing music and playing together while in high school in Petoskey, Mich. While the duo admits "[i]t’s hard to start a musical career in a place where there are more deer than people," they played everywhere they could and kept honing their skills.

After some time in different spots, the pair found themselves in Los Angeles together, recorded a demo and began to play in that area. Since releasing their debut EP in 2016, Reed and Young have added pianist Christian Wilder to their lineup, shortly before hitting the studio for 2017's Wasting the Meaning EP.

The Michigan Rattlers have a few shows remaining on their calendar in August. They'll spend late September through mid-November on the road in support of Evergreen, including four album release concerts in LA; New York City; Chicago, Ill.; and Detroit, Mich.
