George Jones, in bad health? That’s what concerns fans about the legendary country singer, but an official statement from Jones’ people confirms that the Possum is alive, well, and happy to be on tour.

You’d have to be happy to be touring to maintain the schedule that George is keeping. As he prepares to celebrate his 81st birthday September 12th, Jones has nearly 2 dozen dates remaining on his 2012 tour.

“I love the road. I love the fans. I am just a singer and love to sing my songs. Until I’m done, I still don’t need no rockin’ chair. Just gimme’ that stage and I’ll have at it.”

Jones, paraphrasing on of his own songs, tells fans exactly what they need to hear. The Possum, after all, has been in an out of the hospital recently with a lingering upper respiratory infection. It sounds as if he’s back to 100% and ready to finish off the year and start his 2013 farewell tour, which he’s fittingly calling ‘The Grand Tour’, named after his #1 hit from 1974. Those dates have yet to be officially announced.

Here's George Jones performing 'I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair', and his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992.
