‘Game of Thrones’ Behind the Scenes: Want to See How Big Dany’s Dragons Will Get?

Game of Thrones Dragons Full Size George RR Martin
HBO

Game of Thrones‘ jumped through time a bit in its fourth season premiere “Two Swords” to the point where Daenerys’ dragons have grown big enough to pick off sheep, but if George R.R. Martin has anything to say about it, the winged fire-breathers will be half the size of Winterfell by the time the series ends. See for yourself, with Martin-approved artwork of full-grown ‘Game of Thrones’ dragons!

It’s hard to say when exactly we’d see the fully-realized dragons brought to life on HBO, though franchise creator George R.R. Martin confirmed to Entertainment Weekly at least that a new illustration from ‘The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the World of Game of Thrones‘ accurately represents his visions of the full-grown creatures. The artwork in question (seen below) shows Dany’s ancestor Aegon I Targaryen atop his dragon, Balerion the Black Dread.

Granted, it wouldn’t be the first time if HBO decided to scale back Martin’s vision for practical purposes, as we’ve already seen that the author’s ideas about the infamous Iron Throne extend multiple times beyond what appears in live-action on the series. Worth noting, however, is that Bran Stark’s vision of events past, present and future from this past Sunday’s “The Lion and the Rose” distinctly showed a giant dragon shadow over Kings’ Landing. Whether this was intended to foreshadow Daenerys’ arrival, or perhaps a scene from the past has yet to be revealed.

Take a look at at full-grown ‘Game of Thrones’ dragon in the illustration below, and tell us in the comments what you want to see from HBO’s eventual incarnation of Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion in the comments!
