SUMMARY:West Texas Boy Scouts Host 'Winter Camporee'
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_128775" align="aligncenter" width="594"] Photo by Hugh Scott/Getty Images[/caption] The Brazos Forks District of the Boy Scouts will hold their annual 'Winter Camporee' in West Texas. Webelo Scouts from all over the Lone Star State will soon converge on Lake Daniel just south of Breckenridge Texas. The scouting event is set for December 7th through the 9th. Last month the 'Boy Scouts' held a camping event at the Camp Tonkawa camp just out side of Buffalo Gap Texas. This event in Breckenridge is designed to challenge scouts because of the unpredictability of the weather. In an effort to get scouts prepared for the 'Winter Camporee'\, Alan Eggleston the District Director and team member of the Texas Trails Council said "while we look forward to this event every year with anticipation\, I like to remind all scouts to come and be prepared for what mother nature may bring. Sometimes she plays nice and sometimes Mother Nature is down-right mean. We as scouts must be prepared to face the extreme challenges the outdoors give us here in West Texas." Scouts are advised to be ready for certain activities like: Geo-caching\, adult leader Biscuit Cook-off and maybe some free time fishing (scouts will need to bring their fishing license and your their fishing gear/tackle)\, knife and tomahawk throwing\, rope and knot relay and other tenderfoot skills. "These are always fun events" says Eggleston who would like to see more boys join scouting. There are entirely too many distractions that keep boys indoors and do not allow them the opportunity to learn outdoor skills. "I wished more parents would think of what is happening to their boys and encourage their boys to join scouting" Says Eggleston. Information Event Brazos Forks District Winter Camporee Dates and Times Camp will open at 5 PM on Friday December 7th and close for the day at 10 PM. Campers arriving on Saturday can start checking in at 7AM and continue until camp closes at 10 AM Sunday Location Lake Daniel County Road 147 and Country Road 148 Cost $10 per person if pre-paid through the Scout Office. $15 per person if not paid in advance More Info. Bring regular camping gear\, water\, possibly firewood\, off the ground fire pits\, propane stoves and lanterns\, cold weather clothing (remember to dress in layers for the West Texas weather). Anyone wishing to join in the fun\, or would like more information on scouting in West Texas contact Alan Eggleston at the Texas Trails Council 1208 N. 5th St. in Abilene\, TX 79601 or call (325)677-2688. [button href="http://keanradio.com/boy-scouts-banning-gays/" title="Boy Scouts Reaffirm Policy of Banning Gays" align="center"]
