Additional Information

Doing even simple taxes can be taxing (pardon the pun) and a real chore to say the least, so let some IRS trained volunteers from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) help you during this annual season that kicks off January 30th and goes through April 15th. Bring your 2012 tax materials such as W-2 forms, Social Security cards and last year’s return. The AARP volunteers will assist you on a first-come, first served basis.

The Library Information Services Manager, Janis Test says "if you have any specialty forms or if you think you might need it for your 2012 tax return, please bring that paperwork with you. More importantly bring your social security cards because you will need them." Many of the basic tax forms are already available at the Information services desk in the basement of the downtown library for free. However, Test went on to say that "the IRS has been slow at getting us all the forms we might need but we should have most of them available by then, but it's still a good idea to bring everything with you and let the IRS trained volunteers sort through the paperwork."

More Info.

This service is available to anyone with simple filing needs, but if your filing amended, itemized, long form or anything that requires more than the volunteers are trained to offer, Janis says "seek help from a tax preparation service here in Abilene. What we're offering is tax assistance to the elderly and people who cannot afford to do their own taxes."
