‘Dexter’ Spinoff Update: Showtime Boss Teases Possibility

Dexter Final Season 8 Spinoff

Showtime’s ‘Dexter‘ has nearly reached the halfway point of its eighth and final season, with little development on the potential of a spinoff series. Showtime has remained fairly mum on the possibility before, but what does programming head David Nevins have to say, now that ‘Dexter’ showrunner Scott Buck has an overall development deal at the pay cable network?

While we’d hardly consider it a confirmation, Nevins certainly offered a telling response to the question during Showtime’s recent TCA press tour panel. Addressing the prospect of a ‘Dexter’ spinoff, Nevins curtly offered “Of course. We announced a deal with Scott Buck today. Draw your own conclusions.”

A bit more conclusively, Nevins spoke to reporters after the presentation, saying:

There are always things that can be done. We have a deal with Scott and we are going to talk to a bunch of different things with him. I don’t know anything. There is nothing real. There’s no sense of whether it will happen, if it will happen, but I want to stay in business with Scott.

Of course, a ‘Dexter’ spinoff needn’t necessarily feature Deb as previously rumored, considering Jennifer Carpenter herself has repeatedly expressed a desire for the character to die, if only to put Debra Morgan to rest for her own acting process. Not to mention the large number of twists and turns for the final season teased by Nevins could significantly thin the ranks of Miami Metro, making a spinoff moot to begin with.

Well, what say you? Would you be interested in a ‘Dexter’ spinoff, regardless of what character spearheaded the series? What “conclusions” have you drawn from Showtime Boss David Nevins’ words?
