Meghan Linsey Covers OneRepublic ‘Counting Stars’

Meghan Linsey - one half of the country duo Steel Magnolias - is taking a very different approach to her music these days. Since her band is on something of a hiatus, Linsey has taken to covering a pop song. Specifically, OneRepublic's 'Counting Stars'.

The Meghan Linsey is a lot different from the original, but it's also very different from anything we're hearing in country music these days. The vocals are enchanting, even mesmerizing at times, and a heavy dose of banjo also separates Linsey's 'Counting Stars' from today's country. But the blue lipstick she sports in the video has Meghan reminding me more of Cyndi Lauper than Miranda Lambert. Check out the video here:

I'll be interested to hear what OneRepublic lead singer and 'Counting Stars' writer Ryan Tedder thinks of the country rendition of his hit song. I'm guessing he likes it.

OneRepublic will be crossing into the country genre again this spring, as they are being paired with Dierks Bentley for the next episode of CMT Crossroads.
