Chaz Gives His Review of the New ABC Show ‘Splash’ and He Thinks It’s a Flop
Last night (March 19th) my wife talked me into watching a new show on ABC called ‘Splash’. Since there was not much else on TV at the time, I went ahead and checked it out. Seems like the show already needs a flotation device because, in my opinion, it’s a flop.
Basically, ‘Splash’ centers around 12 celebrities including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Louie Anderson, Drake Bell, Chuy Bravo, Rory Bushfield, Nicole Eggert, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Ndamukong Suh, Katherine Webb, and Playboy playmate Kendra Wilkinson. All are trying to make waves as they compete at platform and springboard diving. Diving great Greg Louganis mentors the contestants.
First of all, I will say that seeing Kendra Wilkinson, Katherine Webb, and Nicole Eggert in hot bathing suits was pretty cool. But, that’s about the only thing I liked.
The start of the show had several divers performing Cirque de Soleil type stunts into the pool. I thought this might be a pretty cool show. But, it was all downhill after that.
The whole premise of the show was weak and cheesy, and the judges didn’t even really judge the dives. For instance, Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played ‘Rudy’ on ‘The Cosby Show’, was up first. She pulled like a 6.6 by the judges after performing a decent enough dive that Bill Cosby himself could smile about. Louie Anderson was up next and basically just fell into the pool. Yet, because of the back story that was told before his dive talking about his weight and all, the judges gave him a better score than ‘Rudy’.
The judging was like that through the whole episode. Where they were not necessarily judged on their dive, but their drive and ambitions and some other crap. It just seems to have that ‘everybody wins’ type quality to it and there is really no competition. Just a bunch of ‘stars’ diving into a pool. It’s weak, it’s cheesy and ABC should be ashamed of themselves for putting this show on.
As it turns out, not all of the celebrities dived in the first episode, yet, little ‘Rudy’ was the first one to be eliminated, and she had one of the best dives. So, I don’t get it.
‘Splash’ did get some great ratings, as 8.8 million viewers tuned in to watch, but I can imagine most were disappointed. There was plenty of Twitter chatter about it being pretty bad.
So, did you watch ‘Splash’? If so, what did you think of the show?
