Atlanta-based, blues-infused quartet Brother Hawk are premiering their brand-new song "Good as Gold" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to listen.

Fans of Blackberry Smoke should pay particularly close attention to this slow-burning tune: It features an appearance from the band's Charlie Starr on pedal steel. Starr's syrupy licks lend a touch of sadness to the emotional "Good as Gold," a stark contrast to the hard-driving guitars that come in a few bars later.

"I know Charlie played pedal steel on their records — and I'm obsessed with pedal steel — so i was elated when he agreed to play on ours," Brother Hawk frontman JB Brisendine tells The Boot. "I got a rough mix of the song and sent it over to Charlie and told him just to see if he was into it and to play whatever he wanted. He sent me a track back a few days later, and, obviously, we were blown away.

"It was like a whole new song for us," Brisendine continues. "It’s an awesome feeling to have someone you look up to as a person and a player just casually crush the f--k out of something on your record. To me, it’s the best-sounding track of the album; he moved in and around what we had already done in a way that suits the song perfectly."

Comprised of Brisendine on guitar and vocals, keyboard player and vocalist Nick Johns, bassist James Fedigan and drummer Allan Carson, Brother Hawk have been playing music together since 2012. They've shared the stage with Blackberry Smoke, and they've also performed on Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man Cruise. "Good as Gold" appears on the band's forthcoming album, The Clear Lake, Brother Hawk's sophomore disc; it follows their debut, Big Medicine, released in 2016.

The Clear Lake is set for release on May 11. Visit BrotherHawkATL.com to learn more.
