Country music hopeful Caleb Lee Hutchinson stepped onto the American Idol stage on Sunday night (April 22) looking like a downright superstar.

With a banjo in his hand and a brand new look after a much-talked-about 70-pound weight loss, Hutchinson put his Hutchpuppies (his fanbase) into an all-out frenzy with his performance of “Midnight Train to Memphis” by the Steeldrivers.

Yet, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan seemed a tad underwhelmed by the performance, which will ultimately determine the ten contestants that will go on to next week’s competition.

Forgotten American Idol Auditions of the Stars

"Caleb, the fact that you have grown so much and you have been so motivated by this whole music business and stuff ... " said Bryan, a judge that Hutchinson told Taste of Country has been a bit tougher on him compared to the rest. “Great job on the song. I’m not crazy excited about the song choice, but man, I love you.”

“I think you can’t believe you are here,” added Perry. “I think it was overwhelming, but I’m so proud of you and your evolution.”

“The girls started screaming and you forgot all about the song,” concluded Richie. “I know exactly what happened. We want you to grow into being you. We need more of you and it will only come with time.”

Hutchinson will now await the results, which he'll get Monday night (April 23) night, to see whether his American Idol journey will end here, or if it will go on another week.
