‘The Voice': It Was ‘Meant to Be’ That Adam Levine Would Snag Singer From Blake Shelton
The Voice's Season 15 Blind Auditions continued this week on Tuesday night (Oct. 2), featuring coaches Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Blake Shelton.
When 13-year-old Reagan Strange (yes, you read that right...she is only 13) took the stage, she delivered a sweetly tuneful version of Bebe Rexha's smash hit with Florida Georgia Line, "Meant to Be." Her delivery was remarkable at any age, but even more so coming from a mere middle-schooler.
This song has a foot in both the pop and country worlds, so it's no surprise that both Levine and Shelton turned their chairs.
Levine popped in assuredly, telling the teen that he turned around first—way before Shelton. He called her very "Danielle Bradbery-esque."
When Levine asked if Strange was fully country, the singer admitted she's about "soul-pop-ballads" as well, causing Levine to hop out of his chair in a dance.
Shelton calmly ran down his resume of wins as a response to this. Clarkson added a few humorous comments to fuel the fire, but Hudson said sagely "You're only 13?" and complimented Strange on her steady head.
As it turns out, the teenager didn't have much trouble determining her fate, choosing Levine over Shelton without much hesitation. While Levine whooped and hollered, Shelton seemed resigned to his loss.
