The Voice Season 17 kicked off Monday (Sept. 23) with the famed blind auditions—allowing returning coaches Blake SheltonKelly Clarkson and John Legend, as well as returning alum Gwen Stefan, to take cracks at their initial team builds.

The most country artist—possibly of all—showed up at the final moments of the blind auditions. "My name is Cory Jackson, and I'm from Jonesboro, Ark.," he introduced himself. "I spend a lot of time here on the farm. It's a little cattle farm, but this is all I've known pretty much my whole life.“

Jackson told the audience that he's about to get married...like imminently. Like, so close to the wedding date that his fiancee isn't able to be there at the audition. "Just as long as he’s back for the wedding,” the gal in question cheerfully noted.

Jackson, knowing he had to live up to some big excuses for skipping out on the days preceding his wedding, rose to the occasion. "Today, I will be singing 'Galveston' by Glen Campbell. This song's about a guy having to leave the woman he loves behind to do something that he has to do, and I think that connects a lot to me today. I can't wait to turn a chair for her," he noted.

He turned Shelton, Clarkson and Stefani's chars. It seemed obvious whom he would choose, but Stefani gamely noted, "If you wanted to take a risk, I really could help you with being really unique because that song, for me, is like a crossover song." When called out, the pop singer protested, "I’m kind of country now!"

Needless to say, Jackson went for the obvious—Team Blake—and we'll be seeing how he does in weeks to come. He cried, then called his fiancee (of course!) to let her know he'd not sacrificed these pre-wedding days in vain.

We'll be following along each week to keep up with the Season 17 competition, so be sure to check in weekly to check the progress of your favorites on the show.
