Five Things to Look Out for as the Temperature Rises in Texas
So, I’m sitting in the radio studio, live on the air, when I get a call from my daughter. She’s flustered and tells me she needs a new car right now because her little Ford Ranger just “barely made it home.”
Heat and a Truck That’s Struggling
I calmed her down and asked what happened. She explained she was sitting in the truck on her lunch break, scrolling through social media with the engine running and the A/C blasting. That’s when the truck “started giving her fits.”
I glanced up at the thermometer outside the studio window, and it read 107 degrees. That’s when it hit me. My daughter, bless her heart, was sitting in a 20+-year-old pickup with the A/C cranked up in triple-digit Texas heat, just idling in the sun. And she wonders why the truck wasn’t happy.
When Lunch Breaks Go Sideways
Needless to say, that relaxing lunch break I had planned turned into me calling O’Bar Wrecker Service to get the truck hauled over to our mechanic and then meeting with him to find out what was wrong.
This was a good reminder for all of us: If you want your vehicle to survive a Texas summer, you’ve got to show it some love. Here are the Top 5 Hot Weather Car Problems I first learned from Global Automotive, and I’ve lived by them ever since.

Final Thoughts: Be Proactive, Drive Texas Friendly
Keeping your car in tip-top shape during a Texas summer isn’t just smart, it’s necessary. Make these five checks part of your regular routine, especially before long trips. As I told my daughter, the best way to avoid car trouble is to stay ahead of it. Check your fluids, monitor your A/C, and don’t ignore those dashboard warning lights.
It’s hot out there, y’all, real hot. Be good to your car, and it’ll be good to you.
