I play the lottery because my dad did. Before he passed away, he gave me the numbers he’d picked from family birthdays, and I’ve kept playing them. They haven’t won me a jackpot, but putting them on a ticket still makes me think of him.

With Powerball estimated at $467 million for Monday, October 5, and Mega Millions at $345 million for Tuesday, October 6, I got curious: Which numbers have actually been drawn the most? Powerball

Powerball’s Most Drawn White Balls

According to the Texas Lottery’s Powerball frequency table, these numbers lead across 1,412 drawings from October 2015 through September 26th, 2026:

  • 61 — 126 times
  • 21 and 64 — 125 times each
  • 28 — 120 times
  • 27 — 118 times
  • 23, 32, 36 and 63 — 117 times each
  • 33 and 69 — 116 times each
That’s 11 numbers in the top ten positions because 33 and 69 are tied. texaslottery.com

Mega Millions’ Most Drawn White Balls

The Texas Lottery’s Mega Millions table starts in April 2025, when the game changed. Through September 25th, 2026, its leaders are:

  • 17, 18, 40, 42 and 49 — 17 times each
  • 30, 43, 56 and 63 — 16 times each
  • 10, 34 and 58 — 15 times each

That makes 12 numbers when everyone tied for the tenth position is included. These lists count the five white balls, not the red Powerball or gold Mega Ball.

There’s no magic hiding in those lists. Past drawings don’t give a number an advantage next time. But it’s fun to look, especially here in Texas, where a Mega Millions jackpot ticket was sold in San Angelo in 2023.

I’ve already caught myself imagining what I’d do with a jackpot. Then I remember I need to buy the ticket first. When I do, Dad’s numbers are coming with me.
