Tradition has it that you're supposed to get pinched for not wearing green on St. Patrick's Day. But, why?

After doing a little research I found a few different reasons - but the most consistent dealt with those little redheads and their pots of gold.

Yeah, apparently you're supposed to wear green to defend yourself from leprechauns. According to the stories, wearing green makes you invisible from the leprechauns. But, when you don't wear green, people are supposed to pinch you as a reminder of mayhem that leprechauns can cause.

Aside from those pesky leprechauns, you're also supposed to wear green as a way to show display your Irish pride. While not an official holiday, we've been celebrating our Irish American culture since the late 18th century.

So whether you're trying to fend off leprechauns or just show a little spirit for the holiday, make sure you have your green on this and every St. Patrick's Day.
