We all know, or should that in business it's all about marketing. Usually those most annoying, stupid commercials are the ones that stick with you. You may hate them but you remember the product and that's what they want. I grew up in the 70's-80's and there were some iconic commercial in that era of advertising. In my opinion more so then than today. They were funny and creative. So here is a look back at some great retro commercials.

Dunkin Donuts was founded in the 1950's mainly as a bakery but has expanded over the years to become a billion dollar chain featuring pastries and coffee, putting them in competition with Starbucks & Krispy Kreme Franchises. We may not have one in Abilene but everytime I'm at the Dallas airport I have to stop and get a cinnamon roll and chocolate donut. Back in the 80's they had one of the most memorable commercials on TV...I still to this day repeat the lines: "got to make the donuts".

Chuck Wagon dog food was distributed by the Purina company and back in the 70's-80's they used a tiny horse drawn chuck wagon running thru a living room in front of the dog to get him to come eat. The dog of course chased the little wagon and got a tasty meal when doing so. I loved the little wagon and didn't realize it was fake at the time. You look back now and think "how on earth was I fooled by that" but in my defense I was very young. I was born in '71 and these started running in '70.

Now who doesn't remember the Wendy's commercial featuring 3 little old ladies and one asking "Where's The Beef"? This is a classic and a marketers dream. The commercial stuck with people. You couldn't help but love the little lady and think man they are getting ripped off when they eat out. Now days you can get double and even triple meat burgers and everything is "super-sized" but in the 80's all you wanted was a little beef on your burger.

I wasn't a Dr.Pepper drinker but my mom was and I remember these commercials looking like they were always having a blast. When you drank Dr.Pepper you had fun and lots of friends. It was one of those jingle commercials that you sang along too. "I'm a Pepper, You're a Pepper wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too" You even learned the little dance!

Dr.Pepper had and still does have a BIG competitor and that is Coca-Cola. Now I'm a Coke drinker and again I was very young when this commercial came out but it ran forever and even has made some come-backs over the years. I remember everyone knowing this song whether they bought the product or not they new the song and sang along when it came on. The company actually filmed this in 1971 and was known as the "Hilltop" song because it was filmed on a hilltop in Italy. The group known as the New Seekers performed the music and the song became so popular that the group actually recorded the song for an album (dropping the Coca-Cola reference of course).

There were so many commercials to choose from but these were some of my favorites. What are some commercials you remember from your childhood?
