Earlier this month, RaeLynn joined the Eli Young Band on a trip overseas to play a military show along the western coast of South Korea. The "Tailgate" singer has long supported the military throughout her career, but this trip felt a little bit different.

“I always love getting to meet so many different people who make up the military, but I mean, some of these kids were like 17 and 18 and 19 years old, and here they are willing to sacrifice their lives for the good of the country,” RaeLynn quietly recalls during a recent interview with Taste of Country. “No one can put that feeling into words. Plus, they are half a world away from their family. It’s just crazy. It makes you appreciate them even more.”

This encounter was just a piece of an overall memorable trip for RaeLynn. While on the base, she says she took what she determined was the coolest selfie she will ever take. “Yeah, I felt a little bit like GI Jane,” she laughs, recalling the picture she took while sitting in a tank. “[My husband] Josh was joking that no one should have let me by the missiles. I do think Josh was a little jealous.”

Josh happens to be military, but RaeLynn took her trip to South Korea on her own. She made the most of it, also enjoying the sights. "I have always been obsessed with Korean culture," she says. "I was so impressed about how clean the city was. I think I saw one homeless person while I was there. I also love how they take care of their elderly. Their culture teaches about respecting the elderly no matter what. I think we can all take a lesson from that."

RaeLynn enjoyed getting some time to dress up in traditional garb — she shared some of her new outfits on her Instagram feed throughout her trip:

She has since returned to the States, but the Texas native says that there are some things from her trip that she can’t quite get out of her mind quite.

“They don’t have any sort of American breakfast over there, and it's just rice with everything,” she recalls. “But I do have to say that they had amazing Korean BBQ. I loved that.”

But not as much as she loves some good ole USA grub: “I got home and went straight to Chick-Fil-A,” she admits, laughing. “I loved my trip there, but I’m thankful to be home.”

And so are her fans. RaeLynn will see them soon during a three-date headlining run alongside special guest Ross Ellis. The SiriusXM The Highway Presents: RaeLynn mini-tour will have the singer making stops in Chicago, Houston and Nashville before the end of the year.
