Lauren Alaina tipped her hat to the magical world of Disney in Week 5 of Dancing With the Stars on Monday evening (Oct. 14). The country star and her partner, Gleb Savchenko, danced a samba to "Under the Sea," an iconic song from a movie that holds special significance for Alaina's country music career.

"I won my first talent show singing "Part of Your World,"" the singer explained before the dance, adding that The Little Mermaid's Ariel was always her favorite Disney princess because both she and the young Alaina dreamt of leaving home and starting a new life.

"As a little kid who wanted to be a singer, I would just watch this movie over and over again and watch her day dream about this life she was gonna have. That was literally me as a little girl. Ariel wanted to be a human and I wanted to be a country singer. We both beat the odds!" Alaina added.

Decked out in a dazzling red wig and iridescent blue skirt, Alaina danced an elegant samba in front of an aquatic backdrop, complete with colorful jellyfish dangling from the ceiling. The judges praised Alaina's attempt at a challenging style, awarding her and Savchenko 23 out of a possible 40 points.

"You make a great little mermaid, really. You got one of the hardest dances to get," judge Carrie Ann Inaba said.

"I like the fact that there was a lot of samba content in there amongst all the frippery and messing about," added fellow judge Len Goodman, eliciting some lighthearted mockery from the other judges -- and Alaina! -- for use of the goofy word "frippery."

No contestants were eliminated at the end of Week 5 because, as host Tom Bergeron said at the close of the episode, "Nobody goes home on Disney night!" Generally, however, judges' and viewers' votes determine who stays and who goes after each round of Dancing With the Stars dances.

In Week 1, when no eliminations were made, Alaina and Savchenko placed third by scoring 19 of a possible 30 points with their cha-cha. During Week 2, when Supremes singer Mary Wilson was sent home, Alaina and Savchenko's "Confident" paso doble once again netted 19 of 30 points, while their Week 3 tango earned 20 out of 30 possible points. In Week 3, ex-NFL player Ray Lewis left the competition due to an old injury in his foot that was being severely exacerbated by his dancing schedule, which meant no official elimination took place.

During Week 4, Alaina and Savchenko took home 32 out of 40 points for their foxtrot to Dolly Parton's "Jolene," which judge Bruno Tonioli described as "classy." The pair were part of a four-way tie for first place at the end of the night, while NBA player Lamar Odom was eliminated during Week 4.

In addition to Alaina, Wilson and Lewis, Season 28's Dancing With the Stars cast includes actors James Van Der Beek and Kate Flannery, former Bachelorette contestant Hannah Brown, comedian Kel Mitchell and more. The show pairs celebrities with professional dancers, with the pairings competition in an elimination-style competition until a winner is crowned at the end of the season.

Alaina is far from the first country artist to compete on Dancing With the Stars: Wynonna JuddChuck WicksSara EvansBilly Ray Cyrus, and Jana Kramer also previously appeared on the show. Kellie Pickler won the show back in 2013, while country radio DJ Bobby Bones won the show's 27th season in 2018; in fact, it was Bones who convinced Alaina to accept the competitor spot.
