Christmas has come and gone, and with it another round of Doctor Who goodbyes. This time it’s extra special, however, as not only star Peter Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat’s exits from the series, but also the debut of our first female Doctor, Jodie Whittaker! Watch for yourself in an official clip from “Twice Upon a Time.”

We may not yet have a first trailer for the show’s 2018 return (its first under new showrunner Chris Chibnall), but Doctor Who nonetheless offered a sneak peek of the special’s biggest moment. Having held off his regeneration for near of the entire “Twice Upon a Time” Christmas special, Peter Capaldi’s twelfth Doctor finally gets the poetic goodbye scene he’d always wanted. The scene predictably ends in surprise that the Doctor’s new face is that of a woman’s, but there isn’t long to linger in the amazement (all Doctors must crash upon their arrival, of course).

Whittaker’s Doctor naturally regenerated into Peter Capaldi’s old clothes, but The BBC also gave us an early look at what the character will be wearing when Doctor Who Season 11 kicks off in 2018:

In the meantime, stay tuned for details of Whittaker’s official debut and Chris Chibnall taking over for Steven Moffat in the new year.
