First Ever Chick-fil-A Has Closed It’s Doors

Who would ever think a Chick-fil-A location would ever have to close its doors, especially the mothership of Chick-fil-A? The first-ever Chick-fil-A restaurant opened its doors in 1967 in the Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta, Georgia.

The original chicken sandwich was born in a restaurant called The Dwarf House opened by Truett Cathy and his brother Samuel in 1946. They didn't open the first Chick-fil-A location until 1967 in the Greenbriar Mall. This helped pave the way for what would become the modern-day food court in malls. When this store first opened it only served the classic chicken sandwich, a boneless chicken breast salad, coleslaw, lemonade, and lemon pie. Now, Chick-fil-A restaurants serve over 50 items. It wasn't until 1982 that Chick-fil-A started serving their signature nuggets.

This decision didn't come easy but with the Greenbriar Mall losing its anchor stores and foot traffic slowing down there wasn't another choice. So they served their last chicken sandwich at the end of May of this year.

Up until 1986, you could only get Chick-fil-A in malls, there were no free-standing stores. There are currently over 2,600 locations and they are listed as one of the most profitable privately owned restaurants in the United States, even being closed on Sundays.

When I was a kid we could come to Odessa on the weekends and go to the mall because coming from Seminole, Odessa was a big town and that is where I had my first Chick-fil-A. Now that location isn't there anymore. No more Chick-fil-A in the mall in Odessa. But there are two more locations in Odessa. One on 42nd and one on University.
