Texas Tech School of Music to Commemorate 25th Anniversary of 9/11

September 11, 2026, marks 25 years since the horrific terrorist attack on our country's soil that killed nearly 3,000 Americans. Memorials and commemorations are happening all over the nation, and Texas Tech is also joining in honoring the day.

Texas Tech School of Music Commemorates 25th Anniversary

On Friday, September 11, the Texas Tech Symphonic Wind Ensemble, a part of the School of Music, will be performing their one-of-a-kind presentation called Time is Love.

According to the announcement from the School of Music, the title refers to three "aspects" of time: temporal, suspended, and eternal. The ensemble will be made up of several faculty members and students, such as Madeline Kath and Brooke Ryan.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Hemmle Recital Hall on the Texas Tech University Campus. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Lubbock Remembers 9/11

The City of Lubbock is also remembering the lives lost 25 years ago in New York through their annual flag display in Henry Huneke Park.

The flags were graciously placed by Lubbock first responders in partnership with Prosperity Bank. They offer the public a chance to pay their respects towards all those who died and to remember the heroes who gave up everything to rescue as many injured Americans as they could.

Sobering 9/11 Statistics

A total of 2,977 people lost their lives on September 11, 2001 after four planes were hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists.

Of the total, 2,606 died after two hijacked planes flew directly into the Twin Towers, just 17 minutes apart from each other. Most fatalities occurred that day, though some victims died at a later time from injuries sustained during the attack.

The hijacked plane that crashed into the western face of the Pentagon in Virginia killed 125 people, including everyone on board.

The fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The heroism displayed by the passengers on the plane will always be remembered after they fought back against the hijackers, thwarting their plan and taking down the plane before it could cause any further harm.

It is believed that the fourth plane was intended to strike the Capitol Building in Washington D.C.
