Look: South Texas Hit With Spiked Hail
We get some scary-looking hail here in Texas. It’s usually scary because it’s so big, but lately some parts of Texas have been seeing hail that looks like a medieval weapon. I’ve never personally witnessed anything like it.
Of course, this is the time of year when we are under an almost constant severe thunderstorm watch. Sure, tornadoes are the biggest threat and the most top of mind during severe weather season. But flash flooding, hail, and straight-line high winds do a ton of damage as well.

When it comes to hail damage, Texas gets it worse than anyone else. The Lone Star State leads the nation with a total of $6.5 billion in property damage caused by hailstorms, according to Restore Masters. As the old saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas.
The San Antonio area was recently pounded by large hail. Videos like the one below have been making the rounds on social media.
But it was this picture of spiked hailstones that really got my attention.
Getting hit by hail would be a bad thing no matter its size. But I would think spiked hail would be even worse. One of the stones hits someone in the head and it’s liable to take them out.
