West Central Texas Food Bank Needs 660,000 More Meals to Complete Million Meal Challenge

Abilene, Texas, has already stepped up in a big way for the Food Bank of West Central Texas, but the Million Meal Challenge still has a long way to go.

According to a press release, as of September 16, the Food Bank had raised more than $68,000 during Hunger Action Month. That’s already more than the approximately $53,000 raised during the entire month of September 2025.

That money can help provide roughly 340,010 meals to people facing hunger across West Central Texas. That kicks some serious tail!

The Million-Meal Finish Line Is Still Far Away

That’s an incredible start, but it represents only about 34 percent of the campaign’s one-million-meal goal. Nearly 660,000 meals are still needed before the challenge ends on September 30.

“West Central Texas has already done something remarkable,” Food Bank President and CEO Brandon Forrest said. “Now we need to turn that momentum into a strong finish.”

Every dollar donated can help provide approximately five meals, so even a small donation can make a real difference.

Free Pie, Hope Bags and More Ways to Help

On Saturday, September 19, both Life of Pie locations will give a free slice of pie to anyone who brings in a bag of nonperishable food. Helping your neighbors and getting pie? That’s about as good as Saturdays get. Plus, I mean, free pie!

A Community Food Drive will also be held Saturday, September 26, at the Food Bank, located at 5505 North First Street in Abilene. Bring a bag of nonperishable food and receive a free Hunger Action Month shirt while supplies last.
