If you've ever wanted to get more involved in Abilene, make a bigger impact in the community, or simply understand how this city really works behind the scenes, Leadership Abilene may be exactly what you're looking for.

Applications are now open for the 47th Leadership Abilene class, a program designed to identify, equip, and connect individuals who want to help shape the future of the Key City.

Recently, I had the chance to sit down with Abilene Chamber President Doug Peters and Leadership Abilene 47 Program Chair Erica Pangburn to talk about the program, leadership, and what participants can expect from the experience.

What Is Leadership Abilene?

Leadership Abilene has been helping develop community leaders for nearly five decades. The program brings together individuals from a variety of backgrounds and industries to learn more about the organizations, businesses, institutions, and challenges that make Abilene what it is.

Participants spend several months attending presentations, touring facilities, meeting local decision-makers, and gaining a deeper understanding of how the community operates.

As Doug and Erica explained during our conversation, the program isn't just about leadership titles. It's about helping people become more informed, engaged, and connected to the place they call home.

A Behind-The-Scenes Look At Abilene

One of the biggest benefits of Leadership Abilene is access.

Participants get opportunities to visit locations, meet community leaders, and learn about issues that many residents never get to see firsthand. Those experiences often provide a completely different perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing Abilene.

The program also creates valuable relationships that continue long after graduation, helping participants build networks throughout the community.

Applications Are Open Now

If you've ever thought about becoming more involved in Abilene's future, now is the time to apply.

Leadership Abilene's 47th class will run from September through May, giving participants a chance to learn, grow, and develop alongside other emerging leaders from across the Big Country.
