Breaking Barriers 2026 in Abilene Texas: Kicks4Kids Fundraiser at Potosi Live
If you’re looking for a family-friendly event in Abilene, Texas that makes a difference for the kiddos, this one needs to be on your radar. Check out this year's Kicks For Kids.
Breaking Barriers 2026 is coming back to Potosi Live, and it’s shaping up to be one of the more unique fundraisers happening in the Big Country this year. We’re talking live martial arts demonstrations, a full fajita dinner, auctions, and a whole lot of community support; all benefiting local at-risk kids right here in Abilene.
I haven’t been to one of these yet, but everything about it sounds like one of those nights that’s equal parts inspiring and high-energy.

What Is Kicks4Kids in Abilene, Texas?
Kicks For Kids started in the mid-90s when Chip and GlynAnn Townsend wanted to help at-risk kids in the Abilene area train in martial arts. In 2014, it officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
This program goes way beyond the mat. They partner with teachers, counselors, parents, instructors, and even doctors when needed, to track grades, behavior, and overall development. They also cover uniforms, gear, and testing fees, and sometimes help with personal needs like hygiene products and clothing.
Right now, 17 kids are training. The goal this year is to grow Abilene to 25 and expand to other Team Chip schools, reaching 33 total.
That’s the kind of growth we love to see in Texas.
