June.  The first donuts were actually served in 1917 during WWI by donut "Lassies".  These ladies provided donuts and home cooking for the soldiers on the front lines.  They would bring a little home to the soldiers fighting, it was determined that the donuts brought an extra little smile to their faces and so the tradition continued.  Today on Nationl Donut Day many donut shops provide free donuts, it's too late today but mark it on your calendar for next year and scour the town to see who might be providing free donuts!!  This kind of information is always good to know.
