I hate that it takes tragedies, like wildfires, to show us how compassionate and giving our community is, but I guess it's better now than never.

As you know, wildfires have ravaged our area of the Lone Star State causing quite a few families to lose all they have and our community is stepping up in a big way.

From clothing to monetary donations and everything in between, Big Country residents have shown incredible love and compassion for their neighbors in need.

How can I help those affected by these recent wildfires?

First off, monetary donations go a long way, obviously, and the Community Foundation of Abilene has set up two accounts to help those affected.

Eastland County Fire Relief Fund

This was established to help support fire departments and nonprofits assisting people and businesses that have been affected by the wildfires in Eastland County.

Big Country Relief Fund

This fund will provide grants to fire departments and nonprofits helping those affected by fires throughout other portions of the Big Country.

Click the relief fund name above to donate directly to them, online.

You can also donate via check. Make checks payable to Community Foundation of Abilene and include the fund name in the memo line. Mail said check to PO Box 1001, Abilene, Texas, 79604.

GoFundMe also has a page set up for wildfire relief donations and has verified all of the fundraisers as legitimate on this resource page.

If you're in Eastland, you can make in-person donations too:

  • For tangible supply donations: First Baptist Church Eastland, 405 S Seaman
  • For livestock items: Texas Cattle Exchange, 9000 IH-20, Eastland

American Red Cross

Impacted residents can meet with the Red Cross, and other partners, at Siebert Elementary Dome at 100 Little Maverick Trail in Eastland.

If you're aware of other means of assistance, please shoot me an email so I can get it added to this list of resources.
