HBO is one week from its flagship hit’s return, so those fall offerings will get some extra push. And speaking of exploitation – here’s a double-dose of James Franco, as The Wire creator David Simon takes us through porn history with a trailer for HBO’s The Deuce.

Now set for a September 10 premiere, The Deuce released an extended trailer to double your Franco, along with fresh looks at co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal, Wire alum Method Man and many more. The new trailer also brings a bit more emphasis on Gyllenhaal’s character, along with the mob presence and police corruption of the time.

Developed with Simon’s frequent collaborator George Pelecanos, The Deuce follows the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s. Franco plays twin porn kings Vincent and Frankie Martino, with Gyllenhaal playing Eileen “Candy” Merrell, a Times Square hooker with entrepreneurial aspirations.

Its pilot directed by Michelle MacLaren, the series seeks to chronicle “the rough-and-tumble world that existed in midtown Manhattan until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic and a rejuvenated real estate market ended the bawdy turbulence.” Also starring are The Leftovers alum Emily Meade, Anwan Glover, Lawrence Gilliard Jr, Michael Rispoli, Chris Bauer, David Krumholtz, Ralph Macchio, Zoe Kazan, Garry Pastore and more.

The first season will consist of eight episodes (three of which Franco directed), so stay tuned for more on The Deuce and catch the first teaser below.
