Florida State Defensive Star Brandon Jenkins Out for Season
Less than one game into his senior year, Florida State defensive end Brandon Jenkins has already seen his season come to an end.
The Seminoles announced Tuesday that the star defender had suffered a Lisfranc injury (a dislocation or fracture in the middle of the foot) that will require surgery and keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.
Jenkins suffered the injury when a teammate accidentally stepped on his left foot during Florida State’s 69-3 win over Murray State.
Jenkins was considered to be a likely first-round draft pick and considered going to the NFL after last year, but ultimately decided to return to Florida State for his senior season. He will now have a choice between entering the 2013 draft or seeking a medical redshirt and returning to the Seminoles next season.
Jenkins led the Seminoles in sacks in each of the past two years and was a two-time All-ACC selection. He was a preseason All-America candidate this year and was on the watch lists for the Bednarik, Camp and Nagurski awards.
