The death of Paul Walker left some mighty big shoes to fill in the Fast & Furious franchise. Some film series might have packed it in after the death of one of its biggest stars, but the Fast-verse is a little different than your average blockbuster property. For one thing, characters have been coming and going from its ever-expanding storyline from the very beginning. For another, Furious 7 was the biggest movie in the series to date by a very large margin; its worldwide box office total was almost double that of Fast & Furious 6. So these movies aren’t going anywhere. But they do need some new stars.

Deadline says they’ve found at least one big one, with Charlize Theron, fresh off her badass turn as Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, signing on to join the all-star cast of Fast & Furious 8Deadline reports Theron will play “a new character in the blockbuster franchise.” Rumors circulating online recently claim she’ll be the latest villain to take on Vin Diesel and his band of lovable, car-racing tank-top enthusiasts.

Theron would make a formidable opponent for Diesel (and if she is one, I hope they get a crazy fight scene, and she kicks the crap out of him), but I’d be just as pleased if she’s revealed as, like, the sister of Walker’s character who joins the team to take on Jason Statham (the villain of Furious 7, who’s coming back for this movie as well). Or how about playing Dwayne Johnson’s boss? But she also punches him occasionally with her robot arm? She’s just a great addition, no matter the role.

Directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton, The Italian Job remake that co-starred Theron) and written by Fast series mastermind Chris MorganFast 8 opens in theaters on April 14, 2017.
