The Damn Quails Are Back With New Music and an Abilene Show
The Damn Quails Are Back and Headed to Abilene
If you love raw, Red Dirt music with a soul, get ready, The Damn Quails are coming to Abilene on Saturday, August 2, performing live at Big Country Live in the Soda District at the Big Country Beer Garden. This free show is one you don’t want to miss.

A Band Born From Jam Sessions
The Damn Quails hail from Norman, Oklahoma, and first took flight in 2010, growing out of what started as casual weekly jam sessions at a local music joint called The Deli. At the core of this now-celebrated band are singer-songwriters Bryon White and Gabe Marshall, whose harmonies, lyrics, and genre-blending sound helped shape what we now know as Red Dirt music.
From Breakthrough to Battle
In 2011, the band released their debut album, Down the Hatch, which included their breakout single, “Fool’s Gold.” The track gained traction fast and earned them a loyal fanbase affectionately known as “The Covey.” But not long after, legal troubles with their label and management nearly grounded the Quails for good. They lost temporary rights to their own music and band name, a devastating blow to any artist.
Fan-Fueled Comeback
Their fight for independence ended in victory when the band regained their rights and made a powerful comeback in 2015, releasing "Out of the Birdcage," funded almost entirely by their fans on Kickstarter. Since then, they’ve stayed active, touring and recording. In 2022, they dropped their third studio album, "Clouding Up Your City," followed by a live album in 2024 titled "Red Dirt, Blue Light LIVE"
