The annual Rescue The Animals Fur Ball was a huge success this year, not only because it was packed as usual, but because nearly all the animals there were adopted from the Abilene Animal Shelter (now known as All Kind Animal Initiative). This year's theme was a Barbie Dog Fur Ball, and pink was in full bloom at Abilene's Convention Center.

Every year this fun family event has a really cool theme, and it seems as though West Texans are just waiting to show off their creative thoughts. Plus there was great food, adult beverages by Perini Ranch, the infamous doggie buffet provided by Pam's Pets & Fish, music from the Dee Jay, and several area businesses set up displays. Check out event photos below.

Big news to all attending the Fur Ball - also known as Abilene's Rescued Dog Reunion - was the announcement that the shelter is now going to be open seven days a week. Yep, every single day including Sunday, Big Country residents can go to the shelter and adopt a cat, dog, kitten, or puppy.

Rescue The Animals also reminded everyone that there is still a huge homeless animal population here in West Texas. While the event was an opportunity to have fun with families and fur-babies, we need to remember that there are many animals still in need of homes. We must all work together to end the homeless animal population.
