Every person that is serving in the United States Navy whether here in America or around the globe got their start from somewhere. I know this very well because my son Christopher has been in the United States Navy now going on 11 years, and yes I am a very proud father.

And from the very first day my son started serving in the United States Navy, I started receiving emails about what he was doing and the achievements that he makes. It's not at all surprising to receive emails about other Abilenians serving abroad and the achievements they are making, and this is about one of those people.

Marianne Trail is serving in the Navy at the National Naval Oceanography and Meteorology Center

A few days ago I received an e-mail with a press release about Marianne Trail an Abilene native that is now part of the National Naval Oceanography and Meteorology Command. The reason this press release from the Navy got my attention is because of where Miss Trail is serving and what she said about Abilene, Texas.

According to Marianne Trail, the values required to succeed in the U.S. Navy are similar to those found in Abilene.

“It takes a team and their efforts together, to make all operations successful.,” said Trail.

Naval Oceanography personnel demonstrate expertise in Hydrography, Geospatial Information and Services (GIS), datum issues, and Tactical Decision Aids (TDA). They combine knowledge of the operating environment with a thorough understanding of warfighting capabilities to assess and predict environmental impacts to friendly and enemy platforms, sensors and weapon systems.

Serving with the Navy means Trail is part of a team that is taking on new importance in America’s focus on strengthening alliances, modernizing capabilities, increasing capacities and maintaining military readiness in support of the National Defense Strategy.

“The Navy is important to national defense as it is one crucial department of the United States armed forces which, as a team, protects our national security,” said Trail. Source: Navy Out Reach

U.S. Navy sailors serve and protect all around the globe and Miss Marianne is stationed at the Naval Stennis Space Center. As a kid, I always wanted to be an astronaut, and to learn that an Abilenian is working at the Stennis Space Center is just too cool.

The important part is that they gather oceanographic and meteorological data to produce forecasts and warnings to support the safety of all flights and navigation, and with hurricane season here we all need to be safe.
