Brenda Kay is no stranger to playing in Abilene. Born and raised in the Key City, she has played on just about every stage in town, with the exception of Jack Rabbit Slims. That's about to change as Brenda will be bringing her full band, the Caprock Drifters to JRS on Saturday, April 6th.

If you have always wanted to take a crack at singing or want to share a song you've written, Southern Nights Dancehall's 'Open Mic Night' gives that chance. Hosted by Abilene-based singer/songwriter Brenda Kay, everyone from budding singers and songwriters to seasoned musicians are welcome to bring a guitar, take the stage and share their music. The purpose of the night is to have lots of fun, with a relaxed, low-stress atmosphere.

I saw a concert poster poster promoting that 'Brenda Kay will be doing and acoustic set with the Caprock Drifter on Friday, November 2nd in Brownwood at the famed Dukes Pub and Grub.' Which got me asking "is there was any new music from Brenda Kay out yet?" I believe in the old adage "if you ask you will receive." I asked and I got a couple of replies and the low and behold in my 'in-box' I got a Brenda Kay email.

Friday was a great day at the radio station because we got a visit from Texas music singer Brenda Kay and her band the Caprock Drifters. This was the first time the country crooner had granted a full fledged radio interview in years, prior to that she'd been on a 2 year leave from the music business to get married, have a child and write more songs. The latter of which she shared with us live, on the radio Friday.

Abilene was a buzz with activity this weekend, if you were within earshot of Abilene Speedway you would have heard the voices of many Texas music artists. As I began broadcasting live from backstage in the V.I.P./artist tent I immediately spotted hometown girl Brenda Kay, who was kind enough to let me approach her with a live microphone and interview her live on air.
