So far the Rio Olympics has featured a handful of wins for female athletes, from U.S. gymnast Simon Biles to swimmer Katie Ledecky, which made it a great opportunity to debut the trailer for Hidden Figures.

The new film from St. Vincent director Theodor Melfi is all about highlighting the heroic women whose triumphs often get forgotten in a male-dominated industry. Hidden Figures is based on the real-life story of the three female African-American mathematicians who worked for NASA. Taraji P. Henson’s Katherine G. Johnson, Octavia Spencer’s Dorothy Vaughan, and Janelle Monáe’s Mary Jackson were the minds who helped launch astronaut John Glenn (Glenn Powell) into space in 1962. Here’s the full synopsis:

Hidden Figures is the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)—brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world.  The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.

On top of being a film all about the accomplishments of women of color, something Hollywood always need more of, Hidden Figures looks like a total delight. There’s Monáe cracking jokes and Henson holding her own when the men around her doubt her abilities. There’s also a scene with Spencer and a slice of pie, which will forever remind me of Spencer’s other amazing pie sceneHidden Figures also stars Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons and Mahershala Ali. The film opens January 13, 2017.
