We’ve seen some insane things in the Fast and the Furious franchise, but eight movies in and now they’re straight up throwing cars out of buildings. The latest trailer for The Fate of the Furious is, as expected, bigger and crazier, with more cars, more explosions, and even bigger motor vehicles creating even bigger explosions. If you ever wanted to see Dwayne Johnson skate across an icy tundra and use his muscle to change the direction of a torpedo, you’re in luck.

Sometimes you discover something in your life that you didn’t know you needed until you finally have it. Take, for example, the brand new trailer for The Fate of the Furious. If you’d made me list the 100 different things I want from an action movie, I never would have thought to request a scene where a submarine chases a fleet of vehicles across an ice-field. Now that I’ve seen the first trailer for the film, I kind of wish every action movie was just that scene for ninety minutes.

The prototypical Jason Statham action hero is a man who can do just about anything — except shave properly. He seems to have trouble keeping his stubble under control. Other than that, though, he’s just about perfect.

Paul Feig’s The Heat took a genre that has traditionally belonged to men — the buddy cop movie — and gave it a female twist. Feig’s new movie, Spy, does much the same thing, this time for spy films, a world that has long been by, about, and for dudes and their power fantasies. Spy explicitly subverts the genre’s typical gender dynamics by casting Melissa McCarthy as a lowly, desk-bound CIA analyst named Susan Cooper, who has spent her entire career in the shadow of a glamorous James Bond-esque spy (Jude Law) and then finally gets her opportunity to step into the spotlight and become a full-fledged field agent.

Furious 7 almost certainly won’t be the last Fast & Furious movie. But at times it feels like a series finale. There are numerous callbacks and homages to the franchise’s entire 15-year history. The setpieces are bigger and crazier than ever; it’s hard to imagine anyone topping them. And before the chases really get rolling, the mood is often downright mournful. Two different scenes are set in graveyards, and characters talk about taking “one last ride” together.

Call us suckers, but going by the new trailer for 'The Expendables 3,' we think this may be the one that finally gets it right. Both 'The Expendables' and 'The Expendables 2' were well-meaning but sloppy nostalgia exercises, but we're hoping that the third time is the charm and that this one will be a well-meaning and actually entertaining nostalgia exercise.

The 'Expendables' franchise has one thing going for it: nothing else can top it when it comes to the sheer number of interesting and noteworthy actors on screen. So it's not too surprising when 'The Expendables 3' drops 16 character posters on the same day because of course 'The Expendables 3' would have 16 characters important enough to warrant their own character posters.
