We Texans know more about Fire Ants than we would like to except what talented artists they are. Someone had the bright idea for pouring hot molten aluminum into an abandoned ant colony. Turns out it's quite a beautiful piece of art work.
If there's one thing I hate about Spring in west Texas, it's the fire-ants. This weekend I worked on my lawnmower and when I least expected it, my wife and I were being attacked by thousands of fire ants. So I hit the internet in search of ways to rid myself of these pests, when I discovered that I need some flies. Yes, but not just any fly will do, I need a Phorid Fly.
Here in Texas we have just gotten used to fire ants, they can be controlled but it's not an easy task. However, a new ant called the Hairy Crazy Ant, Caribbean Ant or Crazy Rasberry Ant (as it is better known) is spreading and causing new threats to the area. I say it's new, the ant has actually been in Texas since the early 2000's first seen in the Houston area but they are spreading.
Before I started in radio I worked for a lawn and garden chemical distribution company out of Dallas. Our top seller was fire ant bait and killer. Those pesky little ants seem to be able to survive just like roaches.
