Lauren Alaina's stepfather, Sam Ramker, has died following a battle with Stage IV cancer. The country star announced the news on Sunday (Oct. 21), via Facebook.

According to Alaina, Ramker -- who was married to Alaina's mother, Kristy Suddeth -- died at 1AM on Sunday. "His last few hours were some of the most amazing moments I know I will ever have the privilege of witnessing," the singer writes.

"He opened his eyes last night. They shined the brightest I’ve ever seen anyone’s eyes shine, and he said, 'Jesus.' We said, 'What do you see Sam?' He said, 'It’s so beautiful,'" Alaina recounts. "Mom asked him who he saw, and he told her a bunch of people, including his mama.

"He later said, 'I love you all. I found it.' My mom asked him what he found and he said, 'Heaven. I’ve got to go,'" Alaina continues. "An hour later, he went to be with the Lord."

Alaina says her stepfather "was the purest example of how to love and live life fully ... I want us to all be a little more like Sam. He was strong. He was the most compassionate person in the world. He would go without to help a stranger. He was a great dad. Now he is with the best Father in the universe."

Ramker was a family friend before he married Alaina's mother following Alaina's parents' divorce. Alaina first shared that he had been diagnosed with cancer in June, when she played in the City of Hope Celebrity Softball Game in his honor; the event raises money for City of Hope, a cancer treatment and research center. At that time, she revealed that Ramker was diagnosed "a couple months ago."

In late August, Alaina canceled two concerts because Ramker had been admitted to the ICU due to an infection in his lungs. A GoFundMe page set up to help raise money for his treatment revealed that news; Alaina has been private about his condition on her own social media pages. Prior to Ramker's death, Alaina canceled her Friday (Oct. 19) and Saturday (Oct. 20) shows as well.
