Keith Urban took the ice on Tuesday (May 16) at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena to sing the National Anthem for the first time before the Nashville Predators went on to beat the Anaheim Ducks. In an interview with NHL Network, the singer says it was one of his proudest life moments.

"I’ve lived in America 25 years, [but] I’ve never been asked to sing the National Anthem, so it was such an honor to do it here in Nashville for the Preds," Urban tells NHL Network’s Jon Morosi. "It’s a nerve-wracking experience, but, above all, it’s a huge honor. For all the years I’ve lived here, one of the proudest moments, ever, in my life."

In 2017, the Predators have advanced to the NHL’s Western Conference Final for the first time in the team’s history. Urban says the hockey team is the pride of Nashville right now.

"It's phenomenal to see them come this far," he adds.

Urban is the latest country artist to open the hockey game with the National Anthem and help lead the Predators to victory. Previous performances include Carrie Underwood, who surprised fans at the Bridgestone Arena when she performed the National Anthem at a playoff game. Her appearance had not been previously announced. Additional country artists who have taken part in the opening performance of the National Anthem include Lady AntebellumLuke Bryan and Vince Gill.

Underwood, meanwhile, upset Anaheim Ducks fans recently when she threw some shade at their team.

“Woah, what’s with all the empty seats in Anaheim tonight?! Wouldn’t happen in #Smashville that’s for sure!!” Underwood wrote on Twitter before Friday’s (May 12) NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs game against the Ducks.

It was all in good fun, though. The Predators' win on Tuesday has the team now leading the series 2-1.
