Texas is about to lose a ton of Kroger grocery stores as they inch closer to an almost $25 billion deal to devour Albertsons and simultaneously eliminate the second largest grocery company in the United States. Several protests have been raised, and the Federal Trade Commission even sued to prevent the top grocery conglomerate from being able to assimilate their top competitor in the nationwide grocery game.

Proponents of the purchase believe that the combined strengths of each company will be reinforced, and the supply chain of their products will allow for new products to become available to customers that did not previously have access.

Imagine being able to go into one grocery store and getting the quality and selection of Albertsons's excellent meat department, while also being able to to cruise the Kroger produce selections that has become a signature of their product? If such a place were available, I do not honestly believe there is one customer in the country that would care at all what the name is on the front of such a building.

Of course there are also the opponents of such a partnership because they believe competition will be driven out, and if you think the price gouging currently going on in America is bad, just imagine if there was even less competition?

No matter which side you stand, one thing is certain, for the deal to become final, there are several Texas stores that will have to change ownership according to this NBCDFW article. Fingers crossed after the sale is complete that the new owner chooses to keep those stores open.
