It's happened before in the state of Texas. You're driving around the state, possibly doing errands or going to work. Everything is going smoothly until you hit none other than a pothole. To say the least, getting out of the car to examine the damage caused a lot of stress.

How Is A Pothole Caused In Texas?

To put it simply, nobody like potholes on the roadway, especially if it's a large one that you have to avoid. But, what makes one appear in the first place? Well, it involves water in the state. As revealed by TxDOT, it all begins with water.

Per TxDOT, when water gets into the pavement, it begins to cause issues. Due to the water, the temperature inside the blacktop goes up and down, due to the time of day. Eventually, after multiple cars drive over the affected area, the pothole appears.

But now that we know how they're made, will you get money from the state after hitting one on a Texas roadway?

Will You Get Money From Texas For Hitting A Pothole On State Roads?

The short answer? No. As written by TxDOT:

"The Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code 101.021 does not allow TxDOT to expend state funds for damage to property (e.g. vehicles) that is sustained as a result of highway conditions. If desired, you should contact your insurance company, and report the incident of property damage to them."

So, it seems like hitting a pothole in Texas is more annoying than anything!
