That Time the Sky Show Turned Into a Brush Fire

If you were anywhere near Lake Kirby last Independence Day, you probably remember it. What was supposed to be a dazzling fireworks show ended in a literal blaze of chaos. A stray firework ignited dry grass near the staging area, setting off a fast-moving brush fire that cut the show short and had folks scrambling for safety.

Luckily, the Abilene Fire Department was on-site and acted fast, keeping things from getting completely out of control. Still, for a few tense moments, it felt like we were watching a Michael Bay movie without the popcorn.
