WNBA star Brittney Griner was released from a Russian prison after spending 10 months behind bars for "smuggling drugs" into the country. The release involved the United States basically swapping prisoners with Russia. The news was not well received by many in Texas including in Abilene as several people sounded off.

"In a world where geopolitics run rampant, one WNBA star is released from a Russian prison as the whole world turns upside down." Sounds like the start of a movie trailer, right? I'm sure there will be one made at some point in time.

Brittney Griner was traded for Viktor Bout, a notorious Russian arms dealer who is nicknamed "The Merchant of Death". He was serving a 25-year sentence in the United States for "conspiring to kill Americans".  Griner was busted for carrying cannabis oil into Russia and was recently sentenced to 9 years in prison.

Seems like a fair swap, right? (That's sarcasm, folks)

The United States and Russia had been talking about a swap that might have involved Griner as well as Marine veteran, Paul Whelan. In the end, it was only Griner who was swapped while Whelan will serve out his remaining 16-year sentence in Russia.

Dallas Cowboys Star Reacts

Naturally, this has been a hot topic and people all over Texas have been reacting to the news, with many voicing their displeasure, including Dallas Cowboys star, Micah Parsons.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, Parsons tweeted out a jab to President Joe Biden saying, "We still not voting for you." After deleting that tweet he later sent out this tweet.

Parsons wasn't the only Texan that was ticked off about the news. Several Abilene folks chimed in to have their voice heard.

As you can see, many people were not very happy with the prison swap. Personally, I am glad for her and her family that she getting to go home, especially on a stupid drug smuggling charge. But, the fact that they were not able to secure a military veteran in the swap is unacceptable in my book.
