Granger Smith is paying forward the kindness shown to him and his family by doctors and nurses who treated his son River before the boy's death this week. The singer is asking for donations to Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, Texas, in the 3-year-old's name in lieu of flowers.

River Kelly Smith died this week after a tragic accident, the singer wrote on social media on Thursday afternoon (June 6). No more details have been provided at this time. Smith and his wife Amber have two other children, 5-year-old Lincoln and 7-year-old London.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name. The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible.

"Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father," the "Backroad Song" singer wrote. "Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment."

Smith's Thursday night's concert has been canceled. His next scheduled concert is June 14. Musically, the "If the Boot Fits" singer just released a new song called "Damn Strait." Last summer he told Taste of Country Nights he was hoping to take a little time off the road to spend more time with his family.
