Granger Smith released "Happens Like That" as the first single from his sophomore album with BBR Music Group's Wheelhouse Records. Written by Smith along with Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and songwriters Jordan Schmidt, Justin Wilson and Andy Albert while in Tacoma, Wash., the song was finished so quickly, it practically wrote itself. Below, Smith shares the story behind the song with The Boot.

It was right in the middle of the Florida Georgia Line tour. Tyler had been saying, "Hey, if you guys get onto something, please text me," because he has to write; he gets so antsy if he’s not writing. And so, that morning at breakfast, we kind of got onto something, and it felt good. I texted him and said, "Hey, we’re onto something," and 30 seconds later, boom! He’s on the bus.

We wrote it in just a couple hours. It was a good group of guys, just having some fun. We just had some guitars in the front of my bus, and that’s the way I remember songwriting starting, which is why it was special to me.

This is a song we all contributed to equally. It happened so quickly, and it happened so naturally. We didn’t overthink anything. But, I look back -- I don’t remember going through a big problem with any of the lines. Somebody would say something, and another person would say something, and the song was done.
