Legendary country singer Glen Campbell died on Tuesday (Aug. 8) following a lengthy public battle with Alzheimer's disease. The news rattled country music as a genre, but no one person is more heartbroken than the legend's own daughter, Ashley, who issued a statement minutes after the news broke.

"I owe him everything I am," she writes on Twitter, alongside a poignant photo of her hand inside her father's. "He will be remembered so well and with so much love." Ashley, 30, is the youngest of the country icon's eight children and is also a country singer. Campbell was 81 at the time of his death.

In a July 2017 interview with the Boot, Ashley revealed that her dad wasn't aware that he'd recently released an album — Adios came out in June — saying, "He has no idea that he has an album out. He had no idea when he won a Grammy."

Campbell won Best Country Song at the 2015 Grammys for his song about his Alzheimer's battle, "I’m Not Gonna Miss You." Ashley has also chronicled the family's unfortunate journey in song, releasing "Remembering" in 2015, as well.

“Four years old running up the stairs to your bed / Found your arms and I pulled the covers over my head / You say it’s just a storm, enjoy the show / You take me to the window and you show me that it’s beautiful,” she sings. But the song's final words hit hardest: "Now I have to ask you to sing for me / And I have to show you the words to see / You’re standing right in front of me and slipping away."

Details about a funeral or memorial service have not yet been revealed.
