Country and Americana singer Ashley Monroe -- who is also a member of the Pistol Annies -- says that even though she may not get to hear her songs come on the radio all that often, it's still an important and exciting moment for her every time in happens. Read on to learn about the first time Monroe heard one of her songs come on the radio -- and the hometown connection that made it even more special -- as well as a more recent experience, during which the singer says she didn't fully know how to react.

I was on WIVK, which is in Knoxville, [Tenn.], my hometown. It was my first radio tour. The album didn't end up coming out, but the song was called "Satisfied." I think I was, like, 19 years old, and it was a big deal! It was WIVK, which I grew up listening to, and I was sitting in their studio when they played it. It was one of the only times I've heard myself on the radio.

Recently, my husband and I were going to go eat and my song "Hands on You" was on Lightning 100 here in Nashville. And it was so funny! I was like, "Aah!" and I looked at [my husband], and it was a minute of not knowing what to do. If I turned it up, would that be vain? Maybe I'll just enjoy it? Do I take a picture? I don't know!

I almost don't know what to do, but I definitely get so excited. It's a powerful thing, it really is, to be on the radio and know that you can grab someone's attention. I think it's a cool thing, for sure.
