Abilene Traffic Fatalities Are Way up According to Abilene Police Department
According to a Facebook post made by the Abilene Police Department, Abilene is trending the wrong way when it comes to traffic fatalities within the city limits.
What's even worse is that we haven't even hit the halfway point in the year, so it looks like we'll probably shatter the previous record of traffic fatalities.

The record number of traffic fatalities, in Abilene, is 21 and we have already had 13 fatal crashes with a total of 17 fatalities. We're just 4 traffic deaths away from tying that record, which is one that no one should be looking forward to.

The reality of this dire situation is that we're sure to see more Abilene citizens die on our roads before the year is complete. As APD stated, we can help prevent these deaths by "driving defensively, avoiding distracted driving, and slowing down.".
Some of those deaths, we've had thus far, were motorcyclists and due to the extreme heat and high gas prices, we're sure to see more bikes on the road. So, please, look twice and save a life.

If you'd like to protect and serve our community, then please consider joining Abilene Police Department which is currently hiring. As a matter of fact, Workforce Solutions is hosting a job fair on Wednesday, July 20th and APD will be there recruiting new officers.
