William Shatner is being very cryptic when it comes to his new music. While the legendary Star Trek actor and director has confirmed that he'll be releasing country music later this year following his signing with Heartland Records, he's mum on a country icon he's been working with. However, in a 30-second video clip posted to YouTube, Shatner promises "great songs" are on the way.

"Country music, I love it!" Shatner exclaims. "I've got friends in the country music industry. I want to do country music and I'm going to do country music with an icon. I can't tell you who it is right now but it's going to be so much fun."

Shatner went on to rave about the songwriters in the Nashville community, admitting that he's astonished at their process.

"I've got the songs. They write songs like people write poetry, it's really incredible what these artists who write country music can do!" he adds. "I've got some great songs that I want to do and I'm going to do them very soon with somebody you love. I'll talk to you later."

On Feb. 15, Heartland Records Nashville announced that Shatner had signed with the label. The record label said he is "currently working on a very special project that will be released later this year."

Shatner is not entirely a newcomer to country music. He's appeared on the CMA Awards with Brad Paisley, and also made cameos in Paisley's videos for "Online" and "Celebrity."
